Bacon Back Home for POWRi Turnpike Challenge

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (March 20, 2019) – Brady Bacon gets a rare opportunity to race close to home with this week’s Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget “Turnpike Challenge” in the Sooner State.

The four-race set gets under way at Creek County Speedway near Tulsa on Thursday night before moving on to Oklahoma City’s I-44 Riverside Speedway on Friday and Saturday and then wrapping up at Tulsa’s Port City Raceway on Sunday.

The Broken Arrow, OK, native now residing in Winchester, IN, will pull double-duty over all four nights aboard the Kelly Hinck-owned TKH Motorsports/Dahmer Powertrain No. 21h entries in both the Midget and Micro Sprint Car ranks.

“I feel like we should have somewhat of an advantage, these are some tracks that I’ve raced at a lot,” Bacon says.

Bacon’s early racing days took place at Port City Raceway with Creek County Speedway also a venue that he frequented often earlier in his career.

This week’s Turnpike Challenge is Bacon’s first action since USAC’s Shamrock Classic at Du Quoin’s Southern Illinois Center on March 9 where Bacon found no lucky four-leaf clover.

After earning the pole position for the Micro Sprint feature, Bacon posted an 11th-place finish after spinning to miss a lapped car and then ended the night 18th in the Midget feature after a broken throttle linkage cut the night short.

“We should have won the Micro feature, that car spun and I had to lock it up and it killed the engine,” Bacon recalls. “It was our first time in their Midget and we were working stuff out. We were just trying to get it close, but we didn’t quite get there. I think we’ll be ready now for this week’s races in Oklahoma, I’m looking forward to getting back there and seeing all of our family and fans.”

Beginning with this weekend’s action, Bacon’s schedule of events for the 2019 season ramps up with more than 100 scheduled races including the full USAC National Sprint Car trail along with a selected slate of Midgets, Winged Sprint Cars and USAC Silver Crown cards along the way.
