Schuett Scores $10K Win in Indy Invitational
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (December 12, 2015) – Kyle Schuett made his first career Midget feature win a lucrative win by holding on to take the $10,000 winner’s share in Saturday’s Inaugural Indy Invitational that spilled over to the wee hours of Sunday morning in the Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
While Schuett wired the Midget field for the big win, Mike Wheeler did likewise in the Outlaws Karts for a $5,000 payday.
After winning his heat race and then the fast dash to earn the pole starting position, Schuett of Urbana, IL, held off a host of challengers in the caution-plagued 30-lapper, including a last-ditch, last corner effort by Tanner Thorson.
As Thorson spun to a stop, Schuett took the checkered flag ahead of Spencer Bayston with Chase Briscoe, 19th-starter Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., and Shane Cottle rounding out the top five. Stenhouse, Jr., earned a provisional starting position to the “A” Main by way of setting quick time in qualifying earlier in the evening.
In the Outlaw Kart feature, Wheeler was dominant throughout, ultimately taking the checkered flag ahead of 13th starter Brandon LaChance with Jett Hays, 15th-starter Colby Copeland and Ryan Foster among the top five.
After beginning hot laps at 4:00 p.m., the final checkered flag of the night finally flew just after 1:30 a.m. due to a barrage of caution flags for numerous spins and incidents on the tiny dirt oval with several stoppages to allow the building to clear of fumes.
