Rauch Masters El Paso County

Rauch Claims 6th Win of Season

September 12 the RMMRA made their final trip south to El Paso County with a strong showing of 20 midgets making the tow. It was veteran Keith Rauch who would move one step closer to the 2015 RMMRA Championship.

Heat race action started with Bob Harr taking heat 1, Luke Icke capturing heat 2, and Keith Rauch taking the win in heat 3.

Feature action began as Chris Sheil and Dustin Weland led the field to the green. Sheil would jump to the early lead until a caution came out for Larry Bensenberg spinning in turn two on lap seven. During caution, in a strange series of events, the track crew began to water the top groove and the field of cars would roll the track back in. As the restart flew, Sheil would continue to lead until fourth row starting Keith Rauch made his way towards the front. He approached Sheil and was able to make the pass up top to gain the top spot. Dustin Weland would follow Rauch along the top moving Sheil back to third. Mid race cautions (all involving moisture on the top side of the track) would claim Sheil, Weland, and a hard charging Luke Icke. Each driver would make their way to the back of the field and try to gain spots on the respective restarts.
RMMRA Rookie-of-the-Year contender Zack Merritt ran strong, battling with Keith Rauch for the win but would have to settle for a season best 2nd place finish. At the stripe it would be Rauch, Merritt, Icke, Bob Harr, and Tony Rossi rounding the top five. Full results are posted in the “results” page.

The next event for the RMMRA is Saturday, September 19th, when the RMMRA returns to Butch Speicher’s I-76 Speedway for the Season Championship and Ken Clark Memorial Race!!!!!!
