The Red River Rivalry - Texas vs. Oklahoma Midget Event
Drivers from four states to compete in Midget Auto Races at Ft Cobb, Oklahoma

OK Focus Midgets vs TX SMMA Midgets

SHOWTIME MOTOR SPEEDWAY FT COBB, OKLAHOMA
SATURDAY NIGHT MAY 6, 2006

Imagine professional Midget Auto Racers broad sliding their tires around the corners of the outdoor dirt track at high speeds, then accelerating up to speeds of over 80 MPH on the straights. This is Midget Auto racing, and it is coming to Showtime Motor Speedway in Ft Cobb, Oklahoma. Races will be held on Saturday May 6th at 7:00pm, the first weekend of May. There are seven OK Focus Midget races scheduled for Showtime Motor Speedway at Ft Cobb. The dates are: June 3, June 10, June 17, July 1, July 29, and September 2, 2006.

Tom Sewell, president of the OK Focus Midget Association announced the schedule for the seven races slated for Ft Cobb, Oklahoma. “It is a very smooth fast track,” Sewell said after a promotional tour last week. “Horse Power will not be much of a factor here, driver ability and corning speed is going to be very important here“.

Along with Pro Midget Auto Races will be the Modified Midgets featuring the Outlaw Alcohol Breathing Winged Micro Sprint Cars. Equipped with precision engines turning over 14,000 RPM’s. Engines include those from popular manufactures including Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha. The modified midgets feature chassis from Oklahoma manufactures such as Broken Arrow’s Factor 1, and Sawyer Manufacturing, plus several other chassis manufactures from outside of Oklahoma.

And this will be a big event for the OK Focus Midgets that will race at the Speedway for the first time in history. This will be the opening round of the OK Focus Midgets 2006 Tour. The OK Focus Midgets Association is a group of racers that compete in USAC style Full Midget Automobiles equipped with engines that are modified for racing but come originally from Ford Focus Automobiles. Another association of drivers out of Texas the SSMA, will be in fierce competition for the overall championship title. Opening round of this battle will hit the track at Showtime Motor Speedway Saturday night May 6th. The drivers will be competing for their point championship at Showtime Motor Speedway, Paris, Texas, Houston, Texas and Bryan, Texas. Drivers of the Ford Focus Midgets, who are capable of speeds in excess of 120 MPH, will be racing for awards and points on the tour.
These types of Midget Automobiles have been featured in USA Today, and on the Discovery Channel television network. Father and son team of Leon and his son Brady Bacon should be among the OK Focus Midget drivers there. Both have won races on the tour.

Other drivers scheduled to appear include Texas drivers Johnny Murdock and Aaron Kirk, and Oklahoma’s Cody Brewer from Choctaw, Oklahoma.

The Showtime Motor Speedway will be the Venue for the “Red River Rivalry“. Witness Pro Midgets and Pro Modified Midget plus Mini Stock Car racing on the Outdoor Dirt Track oval. Over 100 entries including race teams from OK Focus Midgets, SSMA Texas Midgets, NMMA, and Regional Oklahoma Renegade Outlaw tracks will be competing for cash and awards. There will be new track records established in all Midget classes, as this will be the first time Midgets have raced on this track. It will be a new track for all Midget contestants.
