3rd Annual “Kansas Midget Klassic” And “The Ron Hughes JR. Memorial” Lap Sponsorship Available
Arvada, CO. - The 3rd Annual “Kansas Midget Klassic” is set for July 22nd and 23rd at the beautiful 3/8 clay Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kansas. This year’s race will offer $25,000 in Prize money with the winner taking home $2,000 each night.
In honor of Ron Hughes, JR., the winner of the Saturday Night Feature race at the 3rd Annual “Kansas Midget Klassic” will receive The Ron Hughes Jr. Memorial Award.
The American Independent Midget Series (AIMS) will be the primary sanctioning body with co-sanctioning from the Southern Midget Racing Series (SMRS) and the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association (RMMRA).
Mitch Miller founder and President for AIMS (American Independent Midget Series) will be giving fans and business’s a chance to get involved with Saturday night’s midget event by sponsoring a Lap in the 30-lap Feature race in Honor of Ron Hughes, Jr. Each lap will be $25.00 minimum for each of the 30-laps in the midget feature event on Saturday July 22.
Hughes Jr. was a five time Texas Outlaw Midget Champion, winning the title in 1982, 83, 84 and again in 88, 89 after recovering from serious injuries, suffered in a USAC Midget race in Denver, CO. in 1984.
Hughes Jr., although paralyzed by the crash in Denver from the waist down, returned to race again using hand controls and amazingly continued to win races. Ron Hughes Sr., a former Midget racer and long time car owner estimates Ron Jr. won close to 100 Feature races, including a streak of 17 in a row at Big H Speedway in Houston, TX. Ron Jr. also won Feature events before and after his injuries with the MARA Midgets in Illinois.
Ron Jr. started in the Midgets at the age of 19 in 1981 and lost his life in a crash at Devils Bowl Speedway in March of 1990.
