Competitors from three states were on hand as Joe Knippel claimed his fifth driving title at the 18th Annual Illini Racing Series Banquet in Morris, IL at Jennifer's Garden. Knippel also claimed his sixth championship car owner trophy. The presentation was made by Art Peacock of ADM Realty, a series sponsor, who announced his plans to extend the sponsorship program through 2009.

Other special awards included Scott Dunning as the Bob Higman Rookie of the Year; Scott Koerner was named the Most Improved Driver; The Brett Lovellette Sportsmanship Award went to Critchett & Sons Towing Service; Brad Robinson's #5 was named the Best Appearing Car; Beyta Gear Service's #11 team was named the Best Dressed Crew; Kurt Mayhew received recognition for setting the club track record at Angell Park Speedway; the Bob Meyers Perseverance Award was presented to Eddie Sauer; Brian Dobis took home the Determination Award; Allen Gillis earned the Bob Lockard Mechanical Excellence Award; and Joe Knippel was the 2008 winner of the Quinn McCabe Full Throttle Award.

We will highlight each of these awards in the coming days, and post photos as well. For now, we wanted to let everyone know who won all the special awards this year.

Congrats to all, and my apologies for not being able to attend. I'm currently on tour with The Sharp and Harkins band. We played in Savannah Georgia the night of the banquet (I believe, it's been non-stop music since Nov. 5th) and it was 80 degrees. Makes me wonder why the heck we made the tour swing back through the midwest when we were greeted by Snow in Indy and more white stuff last night playing in Madison. Regardless... Congrats to all of you and thank you to all the sponsors and individuals that work out of their minds to put on a great program with a great series.

Take care everyone...

Thank-you to all in the IRS who make this club what it is. I appreciate the recognition and awards that we received. Wish that we could have made it to all of the races, had more success, and that it would have worked out for me to attend the banquet. Hopefully I can have a car that runs and the rules & schedule allow for our participation in 2009! Thanks again.

PS-Any information on officiating changes or schedule gossip would be appreciated.

We are sorry Bob Higman was unable to make it to this year's banquet. We are proud to have this Hall of Famer associated with our Rookie of the Year program.
