checkeredflag,
Amusing rumor. My old man has never spent more than $20K on a midget. In fact, only on one – the x-Kallita car John Warren drove ($20K on the button). When Doug went NHRA racing, we bought more: a race-ready car for $14.5K and some disturbingly cheap Pontiacs ($7500 sounds right). Our 24ft trailer was bought for $2500 nearly 10 years ago.

Thanks to that Jack Runyon auction, we had enough spare parts to run for years. Also walked off w/ the Stanton roller for $2500. Needed a motor, bought a Chevy Brayton off Drinan when he required $$ for an attempt at Indy. That was a whopping $11K. We’ve been running it for 10 years, the first wide-bodied midget I think. I spent $200 of my own money on spray paint and an aluminum sheet for new body panels. Now the car isn’t so ugly anymore.

My brother uses old rubber 95% of the time, not uncommon for him to stretch the RR for 4 nights (and that was w/ the Hoosiers). Only God knows how old the other 3 corners are. Jon is just happy to be out there. Gough has won on 2-night old American Racers and hardly turns the motor. When you add up every midget he has bought over a 25-year period, he might be able to afford one #9 car. Yep, millions at work.

checkeredflag,
So my old man has millions and millions of dollars, huh? I guess he ought to trade in his 140,000 mile ’93 Trooper then. Gossip is a funny thing.
